Karen M. Velgos

Passed away on September 13, 2026

Karen Velgos passed away on September 13, 2026, leaving behind a family who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Patricia. Karen was a beloved sister to Monica (Randy) Falk, Paula (Ed) Bishton, and John (Jen) Velgos, and a much-loved aunt to Kayla, Eric, Justin, Joey, and Jianna.

Karen found happiness in the simple things that meant so much to her. She was a die-hard Cubs fan and proudly cheered for her team. She loved making holiday candy for everyone, bringing a little sweetness to those around her. She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her dogs and the three stray cats she took under her wing—Greyson, Tigger, and Garfield. Karen cared for them and made sure they were loved. When she was able, Karen also enjoyed playing basketball, a reminder of the joy she found in being active and doing something she loved.

Karen was especially grateful for the people who showed her kindness and compassion along the way. She wanted to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the Schererville Fire Department for everything they did for her. There were days when they went above and beyond to help her, and their care and kindness meant more than words can express. The family would also like to sincerely thank Sherwood Lakes Apartment for their care, understanding, and support.

Karen will be remembered not only as a sister and aunt, but as someone who loved her family, cared deeply for the animals in her life, enjoyed the things that brought her happiness, and appreciated the people who were there for her. She will be missed, remembered, and loved always.

Visitation Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 1-5 p.m. Prayer service will take place on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
