"My deepest condolences to MaryAnn’s family and loved ones. I am truly saddened by her passing.
I will always remember MaryAnn as such a kind, humble, and genuinely wonderful person. She was the one who interviewed me when I applied to Northwestern while I was still in Qatar, and she was one of the people who gave me the opportunity to become part of Northwestern. Because of that opportunity, my family and I were able to start a new life here and for that, I will always be deeply grateful to her.
MaryAnn dedicated so much of her life to Northwestern, and I was very fortunate to have crossed paths with her. Beyond being a great leader, she was someone who was always kind and caring. She was also so fond of our son, which is something our family will always remember fondly.
She made a difference in so many people's lives, including ours. Her kindness, humility, and dedication will never be forgotten.
May she rest in peace, and may God give her family strength and comfort during this very difficult time. She will be deeply missed.🙏❤️"

"We will all miss her very dearly. A genuinely kind soul, and a phenomenal educator, she embodied values of care, professionalism, and kindness that we can all learn from. Literally generations of pathologist physicians owe their hematopathology education to her, along with the countless lives they saved in diagnosing cancers and other hematologic conditions. Her teaching style was detail oriented but kind, and she was loved by everyone who worked with her. I will miss her very dearly, and send my sincerest condolences to her family and friends. Rest in peace!"

"I have memories of working with Mary Ann when I was a trainee at Northwestern many years ago, from 2009-2012. She was a kind and patient teacher who helped me with my fundamentals in morphologic review of bone marrow aspirate smears. May her soul rest in peace, I am thankful for the time I was able to learn from her. My sincere condolences, Bevan Tandon, MD, Hematopathologist / Molecular Pathologist"

"Remembrances of Mary Ann Hrisinko
It is difficult to know what to say about Mary Ann. She was a uniquely talented and beautiful person. We worked together in the Laboratory at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for nearly three decades. When I joined Northwestern as medical director of the bone marrow/hematology laboratory, Mary Ann was a laboratory technologist. She quickly became technical supervisor of the lab. We both recognized that the lab could become one of the best in the country, but there were a lot of complicated changes that needed to take place before that occurred. We worked closely together as a team to make that happen. It wasn't easy and we didn't always agree on everything. But we always supported each other and worked toward the goal of achieving best laboratory practices and empowering those who worked in the lab.
Mary Ann was an amazing participant and leader in the laboratory. It was her dedication and technique that allowed us to have some of the best bone marrow material to work with when we were making diagnoses. Mary Ann was not only outstanding technically, but she was also an expert in blood and bone marrow interpretation. This was a skill far above others in her position in the field. I would frequently ask her opinion on a case or recheck some of my data as I highly respected her expertise.
Mary Ann's skill and position as a role model were transmitted to all of us who worked around and with her. Her influence will continue as colleagues and trainees follow her example of medical practice and leadership.
To me Mary Ann was not only a colleague but also a friend. We supported each other, confided in each other and worked toward the same goals. I learned about her role as organist in her church and her love and dedication to her family and to Ted. My memories of Mary Ann will remain with me as treasures.
