Betty Jobbe

Passed away on August 13, 2026

 Betty E. Jobbe, age 70, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at her home on August 13, 2026. She is survived by her husband, Brian; daughter, Shannon (Bryan) Swanson; son, Brian (Maggie) Jobbe; grandchildren, Sienna, Nate, Vinny, and Juliette; siblings, Don Larson, Debbie (Denny) Toms, Jay (Debbie) Larson, Bob (Julie) Larson; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Peggy Larson.

Betty was born on October 20, 1955 at South Shore Hospital in Chicago, IL. She graduated from Fenger High School in 1973. Betty and Brian were childhood sweethearts and married for nearly 48 years.

Before having children, Betty worked in the accounting department at Foote, Cone & Belding on Michigan Avenue in Chicago.  Once her children were born, Betty dedicated her time to being a loving mother and homemaker. She volunteered at St. Joseph Church teaching CCD. When her children were in high school and college, she worked part-time at Quality Accessories. In recent years, Betty took great joy and pride in caring for her grandchildren. She especially loved going to their baseball/softball games and watching movies with them.

Betty spent most of her time surrounded by her family, and at every event - birthdays, pool days, holidays - she brought her famous dill dip in the iconic tupperware container. St. Patrick’s Day was her holiday. March 17th brought together her close friends and family to celebrate Irish heritage and do her favorite things: laugh and drink, specifically an ice cold bottle of Miller Lite. Although she was a social woman, she still loved her downtime, doing puzzles, pulling weeds, and cooking. At night you could find her relaxing watching Westerns, Little House on the Prairie, Hallmark movies, or the news so she could swiftly update her family and friends.

Betty’s selflessness carried into other activities outside of the home as well, serving others.  She spent her life making sure those around her were happy and comfortable, which typically meant making them laugh with her quick wit and playful sarcasm or repeatedly offering them food and treats. Her optimism never gave her a chance to think negatively about anyone. Betty’s pure-hearted, bubbly personality and positivity were contagious and inspired others. She carried her joyful spirit all the way through her final days, playing with her grandchildren and whipping up meals.

Betty was the light of many people’s lives, the heart of our family, and words cannot express how much she will be missed.  While we’ll be eternally grateful for the time we had with her, we all wish it could’ve lasted a little longer.  "The brightest stars in the sky burn the fastest, so we must love them while we can."

Visitation Friday, August 21, 2026 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the Elmwood Funeral Chapel 11300 W. 97th Lane, St. John.  Funeral Services Saturday, August 22, 2026 DIRECTLY at St. Maria Goretti Church 500 Northgate, Dyer, IN. for Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 pm.  Following Mass all are invited to celebrate Betty’s Life for lunch at Tiebel’s Restaurant.
