Edward R. Niksich, age 95, a lifelong resident of the East Side, passed away on May 18, 2026. Ed dedicated much of his life to his community, serving as a Realtor at Bloom Realty from 1956 until 2024. He was a long-standing member of both the East Side Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus and was especially proud of his service as an Illinois U.S. Navy Reserve on the USS Albany.

Ed was the beloved husband of Mary L. (nee Totleben) for 66 wonderful years. He was a loving father to Judith (Robert DeMarco) Furjanic, Donna Niksich, Joe (Carolyn) Niksich, Dana (David) Pilling.  Ed was a devoted grandfather to Kristin Furjanic, Luke (Natalie Ellis) Furjanic, Lance Tabor, Samantha Tabor, Arielle Niksich, Alexa Niksich, Analise Niksich, Kathryn Pilling, Alexander Pilling, Marjanna Pilling, and the late Kara Ann Furjanic. He was also a cherished father-in-law to Mark J. Furjanic and Dan Tabor.

Ed was the youngest child born to Jure (George Joseph) Niksic' and Marija (Mary) Niksic' who immigrated from the town of Siroka Kula, Croatia. Ed is remembered as the dear brother of the late Martha Niksic', late Stephen Niksic', late Josephine Hester, late Ann Cyrnek, late Mary Sustich, late Rose Pohrte, late Kathryn Melzer, and late Helen Zinzer. He was a fond uncle to many nieces and nephews, and his kindness and generosity touched all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place Friday, June 5, 2026, beginning at 9:00 a.m. from the Elmwood Chapel, 11200 S. Ewing Ave., Chicago, IL, proceeding to Sacred Heart Croatian Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in the name of Edward Niksich to the American Cancer Fund.
