Eracleo “Rocky” Serrato, age 63, born in Ayotlan, Jalisco, raised in the outskirts of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, and resident of Chicago’s East Side since 2001, passed away on May 16th 2026 in Palo, Alto California after his battle with pancreatic cancer.

Rocky was beloved husband of Bertha Serrato for 38 years. Doting father of Elizabeth, Giovanni, and Jacqueline Serrato. Proud grandfather to his grandchildren Jesus, Sara, Christopher, Camila, Alexa, Sofia, and Isabella. Rocky was also godfather and surrogate father to countless in his life, a testament to the genuinely loving and trustworthy person he was.

He was the son of  late, Jose Serrato and Ofelia Quiroz. Baby brother of Socorro, Jose, Romelia, Erika, and elder brother of Lupita Serrato; and truly appreciated uncle of many nieces and nephews.

 A SEIU Local 1 Union member for over 25 years and successful entrepreneur for the last 3 years of his life. Leaving behind a family owned business, serving and employing his fellow Hyde Park community members. A proud Chicago resident, donating annually to the Chicago Police Foundation. His joy and therapeutic pastime was gardening, contributing annually to The Rainbow Beach Victory Garden, one of Chicagos oldest community gardens. He was devoted to his community, helping others, and always making himself available to any who needed him professionally and personally. Forever a consistent and vital presence in his loved one’s lives. He will be ardently missed.

Eracleo "Rocky" Serrato, de 63 años de edad, nacido en Ayotlán, Jalisco, criado en las afueras de Los Mochis, Sinaloa, y residente del East Side de Chicago desde 2001, falleció el 16 de mayo de 2026 en Palo Alto, California, tras su batalla contra el cáncer de páncreas.

Rocky fue el amado esposo de Bertha Serrato durante 38 años. Padre devoto de Elizabeth, Giovanni y Jacqueline Serrato. Abuelo orgulloso de sus nietos Jesús, Sara, Christopher, Camila, Alexa, Sofía e Isabella. Rocky fue también padrino y figura paterna para innumerables personas a lo largo de su vida, un testimonio de la persona genuinamente amorosa y digna de confianza que fue.

Fue hijo de los difuntos José Serrato y Ofelia Quiroz. Hermano menor de Socorro, José, Romelia y Erika; hermano mayor de Lupita Serrato; y tío verdaderamente apreciado por muchos sobrinos y sobrinas.

Fue miembro del sindicato SEIU Local 1 durante más de 25 años y un exitoso emprendedor durante los últimos 3 años de su vida, dejando tras de sí un negocio familiar que sirve y emplea a miembros de su comunidad en Hyde Park. Fue un orgulloso residente de Chicago, realizando donaciones anuales a la Chicago Police Foundation. Su alegría y pasatiempo terapéutico era la jardinería, contribuyendo anualmente al Rainbow Beach Victory Garden, uno de los jardines comunitarios más antiguos de Chicago. Estuvo dedicado a su comunidad y a ayudar a los demás, mostrándose siempre disponible para cualquiera que lo necesitara, tanto en el ámbito profesional como en el personal. Será por siempre una presencia constante y vital en la vida de sus seres queridos. Se le extrañará profundamente.

"May God be with my second family in this time of grief. Im so thankful to have known Pa for over a decade of my life, and the memories of him always treating me like family from being in his home to seeing him in passing at stores, there was never a time he did not come to say hello or give his huge hugs when he seen me. He will be most definitely be missed dearly. We love you Pa forever."
