Marilyn Rokita (Gregorich)

Passed away on May 7, 2026

Marilyn Rokita (nee Gregorich)

Marilyn “Ma” Rokita, age 76, of LaPorte, Indiana, formerly of St. John, Indiana, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Rokita and the devoted mother of Joseph (Amy) Rokita and Laura (Adam) Konieczny. She was the cherished grandmother of Janelle, Axl, and Arya, who were the light of her life.

Marilyn was born on September 13, 1949, to Stephen and Mary (née Chorak) Gregorich in Chicago, IL. She was the dearest sister of Fran (Paul) Klimek and is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were touched by her kindness, humor, and warmth.

A dedicated nurse and proud retiree of South Chicago Hospital, Marilyn spent her career caring for others with compassion, strength, and grace. She was an avid Chicago Bears fan, a lover of puzzles — most recently Mahjong — and found her greatest joy in time spent with her grandchildren. Her presence brightened every room, and her ability to make others feel loved and supported was one of her greatest gifts.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 15, 2026, from 4:00–8:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Elmwood Funeral Chapel, 11300 W. 97th Ln. (½ block west of US 41/Wicker Ave at 97th Ln.), St. John. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery

"Ma….you were one of the best parts of my childhood. You are why I sing out loud, jamming while vacuuming. You were such a light and always had the best snacks! You never missed a roller skating show at Helen and Rays driveway. You were always so kind, generous and just fun! Love you and your family so much! You were a true light. "

"I work at the front desk at Maple City Dentistry and we were all so confused when she didn't call and didn't show for her appointment this week. On a whim, hoping it wouldn't be true, my coworker searched her name. The gasp between us sucked the air out of the room. We are devastated! She was the first name and face I committed to memory upon getting this job. Because she was THAT memorable! She brought a light and happiness into the office. I'm jealous of you that got to know her so much better and longer than I. She will be missed in this little corner of Laporte, and want her loved ones to know it! Sabrena "

"Marilyn was the most sincere, nicest person the Er at SCCH. I worked in X Ray but dealt with the nurses. I also lived down the street on Ave K from her cousins Millie and Billie. When she left their house she always waved. She will be missed. My condolences to her family. "
