Rita Garcia, age 52, late of South Chicago passed away on May 8, 2026. Beloved daughter of Amelia and the late Salvador Garcia. Longtime loving companion of Darryl Johnson. Dear sister of Laura Garcia, Salvador “Tony” Garcia, Norma Garcia (Jose Ramos Sr.), Lisa Garcia, late Sharon (late Dwayne) Adams, and late Henry Garcia. Rita is the fond aunt, great-aunt and Godmother of many. She leaves behind many friends and will be missed by all who knew her.  
Visitation Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until time of prayers at 11:00 a.m. at the Elmwood Chapel 11200 S. Ewing Ave. Chicago, IL 60617 to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. (Noon). Interment St. Mary Cemetery Evergreen Park, IL. 773-731-2749. www.elmwoodchapel.com.

Rita and I were great friends during our high school years, and I have many wonderful memories of sitting on her front porch and spending time together after school. She was always such a kind, sweet, and genuine friend. Although we lost touch after I left Chicago, I will always remember her warm spirit and the kindness she showed to everyone around her.
