Janice Ann Schultz (nee Sutton) of St. John, Indiana passed away peacefully on Friday April 24th. Beloved wife of Donald Schultz for 56 wonderful years. Loving mother to Heidi (James) Kendall, Gretchen Wilson and Amanda (Ken) Latzke. Cherished grandmother to Jacob, Luke, Kate and Janna.
Janice was born Nov 2, 1943 in West Frankfort, Illinois to Nelma (Lawrence) Kent and Lambert Sutton. The youngest sister to Gerry (Roger) Bean and Elizabeth “Tomi” (Eugene) Demith. She married her best friend, Don, on February 14, 1970.
If you knew Jan, you loved her. Her smile, sense of humor and laugh could light up any room. She was always honest, always positive, always friendly and found joy in any situation. She was the first person to say hello when you walked into a room. She talked to anyone and everyone she ever met and loved to help people in any way they needed, whether by making a meal, offering advice or just a listening ear.
She loved her family more than anything and put their needs first every day of her life. Just when we thought she could not be more loving, she became a Grammy. Her love for her grandchildren was like no other and she was present at every activity, game, concert or performance of their lives. She was present in all of our lives every day and was the first to offer to help in any situation.
Jan had many jobs over the years first as a hairdresser then as a bookkeeper but her final working years before retirement were spent working alongside her best friend and husband as they built and ran JDM Coatings, Inc together. Together everyday they worked as a team and built a business from nothing. After retirement they were able to enjoy trips, walks, golfing and just spending time together full of laughing and love. She loved being with her family and we are thankful to have endless memories of family dinners, weekend trips and vacations together.
Jan touched the lives of so many. She will forever be remembered as a kind, funny, helpful and giving woman who was a fantastic cook and lover of ice cream. She will be dearly missed by so many and cherished forever.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Tomi and daughter Gretchen.
Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers you may choose to make a donation to the Dementia Friendly America organization in Janice’s name.
