Thomas “Tom” James Sitkowski Sr, age 84, of Burnham, Illinois, formerly south Chicago, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on March 29, 2026, surrounded by three generations of his family, a testament to the life and love he nurtured across the years.
He and his wife were blessed with 58 years together, building a life filled with love, family, and shared memories. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army’s 1st Infantry Division, the Big Red One, working as a Communications Specialist. He served as a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, the highest degree of the Order, emphasizing charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism.
After his military service, Tom dedicated more than four decades to his career at 3M as a quality control inspector. A passionate numismatist, he found joy in collecting, studying, and sharing coins. He especially loved showing his collection to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, telling them the stories behind each piece, and helping them start collections of their own.
Some of his happiest moments were spent over 38 years with his wife and family at Jellystone Campground (Yogi Bear), where he met and made lifelong friends. He cherished sitting on the veranda, telling stories, listening to and watching the birds, and simply relaxing in the company of those he loved.
Tom is survived by his wife Barbara (née Marshall) Sitkowski; children Kathy (John) Matusik, Susan Spudic, Thomas (Denise) Sitkowski Jr, and Lisa Missal. He was also the cherished grandfather of Nicole (Tim), Samantha (Artis), Stosh (fiancée Victoria), Isabel, Ryan and Logan; and great-grandfather of Carter, Maddie, Teagan, and Hunter.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, William B. and Cecelia (née Imbierowicz) Sitkowski; brother William Sitkowski; and great-granddaughter Penelope Rae Bodnar.
His legacy lives on in the love he gave; the lessons he taught his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; and the memories he created with those fortunate enough to know him.
