Dennis Koscielniak , of Dyer, IN passed away on March 19th, 2026, at home, surrounded by his daughters and closest family.

Dennis lived his life to the fullest. He loved his family deeply and showed it in everything he did. Raised in Calumet City, IL. He carried a hardworking, adventurous spirit with him throughout his life.

Dennis had a passion for adventure and making the most out of every moment. Whether he was skiing, snowmobiling, flying or traveling the world, he always found a way to enjoy himself, no matter where he was.

His beloved lake house, built with his own hands, was one of the happiest places to spend quality time with his family. He worked hard and played even harder. From water skiing to silly antics to just hanging out by the bonfire, Dennis did it all. He took pride in teaching life skills to those he loved, especially showing his daughters how to do it all!

Dennis also had a deep love for aviation. He spent countless hours modifying his airplanes and often flew cross-country to Delray Beach, Florida. Flying wasn’t just a hobby, it was one of his greatest passions. If he wasn’t driving fast, he was flying low.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Margaret (Zela), his beloved wife Linda (Sokolowski), and his sister Sandie.

Dennis is survived by his loving daughters, Rebecca Smotrilla (Ronald) and Kristen Cairns (Damian), his cherished grandchildren: Maxwell, Averie, and Angus, his brother James, and his partner Kathleen Hughes.

Dennis will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, generosity, ingenuity, love of life, and most of all, his unwavering love for his family and friends.

Memorial Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 26, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. until time of “Celebration of Life Service” at 5:00 p.m. at the Elmwood Funeral Chapel 11300 W. 97th ln. St. John, IN. 46373. 219-364-3474
