Brett Michael Mahaffey, age 35, of Chicago, passed away on February 19, 2026. He was born on March 2, 1990, in Oak Lawn, Illinois, to Gina Mahaffey (Danca) and Richard Mahaffey.

Brett traveled extensively throughout Indiana, Missouri, and Illinois. Although he did not graduate from a traditional school, he carved out a successful career in the IT field, working for notable companies like Apple. His determination and skill allowed him to thrive even without a formal degree.

Brett had a passion for technology, movies, and gaming. He was deeply interested in conspiracies and held a strong faith. Music was a significant part of his life, and he particularly enjoyed listening to Eminem and Halsey. Those who knew him can attest to his kind soul, quick wit, and genuine care for others. Brett would do anything for anyone he met, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of those around him. His love for his pets, including a cherished pet gecko, his childhood cat Lily, his childhood pet bird Sami and Mika, his father's dog, was also a defining aspect of his personality.

He is survived by his mother, Gina Mahaffey; his sisters, Shannon Mahaffey, Kelly Mahaffey, and Brittany McGinnis; his grandmother Juliene Danca; and any extended family or friends who loved him dearly. Preceding him in death are his father, Richard Mahaffey; his grandmother, Sandra Maietta; his grandfather, Ronald Maietta, and Carl Danca.
