E. Gonzalo Montes “El Guarche Veloz”, age 79. Late of South Chicago “Vets Park”, formerly of the “Bush” neighborhood and Michoacan, Mexico. Passed away on January 30, 2026. Beloved husband of Maria R. Montes for 58 years. Loving father of Miguel (Yvette) Montes, late Rosa Isela Montes, Gonzalo Jr. (Marivel) Montes, Ceaser Montes, Fernando Montes, Araceli Montes, Rose Marie Fernandez, and Bianca Fernandez. Cherished grandfather of 13, great-grandfather of 15, and great-great grandfather of 1. Dearest brother to many, and fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.  

Visitation will take place on Friday, February 6, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services Saturday. February 7, 2026 8:30 a.m. closing prayers from the Elmwood Chapel 11200 S. Ewing Ave. Chicago, IL. 60617 to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church for the Mass of Christian Burial 9:30 a.m. Interment Private.

Mr. Montes was such a kind presence in the neighborhood, always waving and sharing a friendly “hey girl!” I’ll greatly miss seeing him down the street caring for the beautiful flowers and will remember him fondly.
