Janet Kay Mainwaring

Passed away on December 24, 2025

On December 24, 2025 the world grew a little dimmer as Janet K. Mainwaring (née Ellison) age 76, passed away peacefully. While our hearts are heavy, we find profound comfort in knowing that after a long, courageous battle,Janet is finally pain free. She has traded her earthly struggles for eternal rest, leaving behind a body that was tired, but a spirit that remained unyielding until the very end.

Janet was the quintessential matriarch—the heartbeat of her family and a beacon of light to all who knew her. To know Janet was to know the true definition of selflessness; she lived her life entirely for others, always placing the needs of her family and friends above her own, even on her most difficult days.

Married for 52 years, Janet walked hand-in-hand with her adoring husband, John Mainwaring or as she lovingly called him "Johnny". Their bond was a beautiful masterclass of devotion, a half-century love story that was built on a foundation of true love and a home where the air smells of comfort, like a Sunday roast. Always promising safety and unconditional love.

As a mother, Janet poured her soul into her children, Lance (Katie) Mainwaring and Katie (Bane) Sunjka. She was their greatest advocate and their softest place to land, shaping them through her quiet grace.

That love grew even deeper when she became "Nana" to Millie, Hunter, and Joey Mainwaring. In Nana’s eyes, her grandchildren could do no wrong. She was their loudest cheerleader and the creator of legendary sleepovers filled with sweet treats and endless fun—memories they will carry as treasures forever.

Janet’s professional life was defined by the same selflessness she brought to her family. Throughout her career, she was respected not just for her dedication, but for the genuine kindness she extended to every student and colleague.

Janet’s departure leaves a void that words cannot fill, but her contagious smile and enduring love and compassion will live on. While we mourn the loss of such an extraordinary woman, we celebrate that she is pain free and dancing once again.

We remember the remarkable life of Janet Mainwaring, she exemplified the qualities of a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother, dear sister in law, and aunt. May her spirit continue to guide and inspire us as we carry her memory in our hearts. Janet's legacy of love and kindness will forever be etched in our souls, and she will be deeply and forever missed.
