Henry G. Maday, Jr., “Hank”, age 81, late of Cedar Lake, formerly of Calumet City and Dolton, Illinois, passed away November 24, 2025. Beloved husband of Sandra (nee Pick) for 60 years. Preceded in death by Henry Sr. and Adeline Maday, Arlene (Richard) Ruud, and LaVerne (Richard) Szypczak. Loving father of Monica Maday and Jean (late Eric) Dahl. Devoted grandfather of Scott, Amy (May), Gunnar, Andrew and Julia. Dearest brother of Thomas (Bonita) Maday, George (Justine) Maday, Lawrence (Lorna) Maday, Kathleen (Roland) Pagel, Sandra (Michael) Fiumara and fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Hank attended Michigan State University in a two year course in horticulture. He was the President and Production Manager at Maday’s Wholesale Greenhouses, a third generation family business originally from South Chicago. He worked alongside many family members in the business for over 50 years.

Hank was drafted into the Vietnam conflict for 2 years. He resumed civilian life and continued working at his family business until he retired. He enjoyed gardening, visiting friends and family, and giving his time to the local VFW Post and Disabled American Veterans (DAV) where he was a member as well as the American Legion Post 330. He loved his country and his family. He also relished attending car shows, parades and telling dad jokes.

Visitation Tuesday, December 2, 2025 from 2 - 8 pm. Funeral service Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at 9:30 am from Elmwood Funeral Chapel, 11300 W. 97th Lane, St. John, IN.  to St. John the Evangelist Church Day Chapel (corner of 93rd and Wicker Ave.) for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am.
