Yvonne Apigo, "Bonnie"

Passed away on November 7, 2025

Yvonne “Bonnie” Apigo (nee Paniagua), of the East Side, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 21, 1982, in Chicago Illinois. Yvonne was known for her kindred soul, incredible kindness, infectious laugh, and unwavering optimism.

She graduated from Annunciata Grammer School,  Seton High School and Loyola University and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

She worked 10+ years as the Director of Accounting for Ankin Law.  Accounting was a career that allowed her to use her intelligence, express her creativity and bring joy to people she worked with. She spent her free time helping at the Greater Chicago Food Depository, helping her parents, helping raise her nephews & niece, while loving life to the fullest.

Throughout her illness, Yvonne displayed remarkable strength and resilience, inspiring everyone who knew her with her determination and grace. She faced her diagnosis with courage, never losing her positive spirit.

Yvonne was a devoted wife, cherished daughter, loving Aunt, and a loving sister. She is survived by her husband, Niko; her parents Maria and Saham; her brothers and their families, Saham II, Alex, Saham III, Manuel, and Lilliana; Joseph, Leticia, Anthony, and Angel. Yvonne is also survived by many loving relatives and friends.

The family shares this poem by Helen Stiner Rice:

When I Must Leave You

When I must leave you for a little while,
Please do not grieve and shed wild tears
And hug your sorrow to you through the years,
But start out bravely with a gallant smile;
And for my sake and in my name
Live on, and do all things the same,
Feed not your loneliness on empty days,
But fill each waking hour in useful ways,
Reach out your hand in comfort and cheer
And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near;
And never, never be afraid to die,
For I am waiting for you in the sky!

The family is grateful for all acts of kindness and sympathy shown during the passing of their loved one.

"Please accept my sincere sympathy. I’ve known Bonnie for 10+ years through work. She was one of the nicest person that I had the pleasure of working with and also getting to know her on a personal level. We shared so many laughs (usually on “goofy” things). I will miss talking to her about our favorite perfumes (Viktor & Rolf Fliowerbonb) just to mention one out of so many others and our interests in different hairstyles. She was more into the “cool colors”, whereas I was a “wig connoisseurs” sort of speak.. We would always try to combine the 2 and got the best of both worlds. I will truly miss her and my condolences to her family, because I know you will miss her more. "
