Robert Charles Delcorio, age 78, late of Hammond, IN, and formerly of the East Side, passed away on October 25, 2025.
Beloved husband of Deborah Delcorio for 36 years. Loving father of Michael (Rachel) Bishop, Tina Bishop, Josh Bishop, Tim Bishop, and Kristi Delcorio. Special papa of Aliveya (Ian) Westerhoff and Abagail Bishop. Devoted grandfather of Dillon Bishop, Ashley (Matthew) Egener, Zachary Bishop, Jeremiah Hughes, and Ayriana Hughes. Cherished great-grandfather of Aiden Bishop and Charlotte Egener.
Dear son of the late Guy and Elsie Delcorio. Dearest brother of the late Betty Jean (Ron) Mate and the late Guy (Barbara) Delcorio. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Robert was a retired Special Education Educator with the Chicago Public School System, where his patience, humor, and kindness left a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues. He also served as a Supervisor at Wolfe Park District in Chicago, where he mentored people and built lasting relationships within the neighborhood community. His influence there continued long after his time of service, remembered fondly by those who worked alongside him and those he guided.
Known by his family as “Papa,” Robert was the kind of man who could fix anything and would lend a helping hand before anyone even asked. He had the energy of an Energizer Bunny, the heart of a teacher, and the wisdom of someone who always listened before he spoke. Family gatherings weren’t complete without one of his homemade meals and his favorite TV show playing loudly in the living room.
Robert spent his days caring for his beloved dog, George, making trips to Menards, or tinkering with something around the house. He taught his family to be tough, resourceful, and independent, always leading by example rather than words.
Above all, Robert stood up for his family and loved them fiercely. He led with quiet strength, judged second, and offered grace first. His patience, warmth, and endless love will continue to guide the family he built and cherished.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were lucky enough to know him.
