Diane D. Helstern, late of Schererville, IN passed away on October 27, 2025 at the age of 86.

She was born on May 3, 1939 in Chicago, IL to Leroy and Dorothy Desmond.

She married her loving husband Robert F. Helstern on September 17, 1966 and together raised four children; late Lynn Lesniewski, Sharon (Thomas “Tommy”) Moskwa, Mark (Debbye) Miller and Robyn (Joseph “Joe”) Pokraka.

She was the sister to the late Jimmy Desmond, late Bob Desmond, late Bill Desmond and is survived by John (Marianna) Desmond.

Loving grandmother to Justin Pokraka, Sarah Pokraka, Hannah (Antonio) Goeders, Dakota Pokraka, Andrew Moskwa, Jerry Gough, Christopher Miller and Timothy Miller.

Great-grandmother to Jay and Lenon Goeders. Diane is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Diane worked in the medical records department at South Chicago Community Hospital for 25 years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband Bob to visit various friends. She also loved reading, doing puzzles and watching movies with her husband Bob. Her greatest joys in life were decorating, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to gather DIRECTLY at St. John the Evangelist Church Day Chapel (Corner of U.S. 41 / Wicker Ave. and 93^rd Ave. St. John, IN 46373) on Saturday, November 8, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. until time of Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment to follow at St. John the Evangelist Church Cemetery.
