Guadalupe Ramirez, "Lupe"

Passed away on September 24, 2025

Guadalupe Ramirez (née Rangel), age 85, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on September 24, 2025.

She was born on June 30, 1940, in Sabinas, Coahuila, Mexico, to Jesus and Felicitas Rangel.

Guadalupe is survived by her daughters Mireya Wirtz (Matthew), Diane Villanueva (Carlos), and Maribel Vargas (Jesus). She was the cherished grandmother of Leticia Vargas, Esteban Vargas, Natalia Vargas, Jessica Cisneros (Antonio), Mireya Garcia (Carlos Romero), John Wirtz (Dustie Walker), and Philip Wirtz (Alyssa). She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Sophia Vargas, Julissa, Evelina and Dominic Isunza and Leilani Romero, who brought her great joy.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Osvaldo Ramirez, as well as by her brothers Tomas and Jesus, and her sister Telesflora and her beloved grandson, Richard Ruiz.

For more than six decades, Guadalupe built her life in the Historic Pullman neighborhood, faithfully rooted on Langley Avenue. After many years of devoted work in the Housekeeping Department, she retired from Trinity Hospital, where her efforts were deeply valued. Known for her wonderful cooking, she took special pride in her homemade tamales, a tradition she joyfully passed on by sharing them with loved ones.

Guadalupe will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose love and strength shaped the lives of all who knew her. Her legacy of family, faith, and resilience will live on through the generations.

"To the Saldua girls and Jr and your families my deepest condolences I am sending. I have such fond memories of your mom and my mom (Flor) and your Tia Fidela in your mom’s kitchen in Pullman making tamales every year at Christmas while they listened to their mariachi music and sang along. I loved your mom and we Mata kids considered her our Tia. I will never forget her she was a grand lady. Take comfort in knowing that she is in the company of her beloved Richie and her Husband and her Comadres who are now Angels looking over us."
