Henry B. Ruhwiedel

Passed away on August 27, 2025

Henry Beecher Ruhwiedel “Ruh” age 78, passed away peacefully in his Crown Point, IN home on Wednesday, August 27th just as the break of dawn was ushering in a new day.  He is the father of Charles Ruh, Bloomington, IN and is preceded in death by his late wife Sylvia Ruhwiedel (2012), and late wife Judith Penn-Ruhwiedel (2024)

Henry developed a fondness for electronics at an early age, which led to a storied career of 50+ years in the broadcasting industry. In addition to winning an Emmy in 1996 for remote digital broadcasting, he was a radio station owner, worked at many radio and television stations across the country. He was an SBE Certified Professional Broadcast Engineer (CPBE) and served on  several (AES, IEEE, NAB, SBE, Etc.) committees.

His hobbies included speaking to people near and far via Ham Radio (AA9XW) where he was very active in the community, speaking at Hamfest events, writing columns, and serving on various committees, and also was active in the Amateur Television (ATV) community. Henry also authored 10 books on various broadcast subjects and dog obedience training. In his personal life he operated Westwind Kennels in Crown Point, enjoyed traveling and taking train rides around the country, collecting G scale model trains, was a licensed private pilot, and with an interest in meteorology, occasionally served as a television weatherman.

Henry had a profound love of animals, and had many pets throughout his life. In lieu of flowers a donation to a local Humane Society or shelter in his name would be most appreciated.
