Condolences
"It is a great loss of losing a good friend and a coworker. I know Eugene at Promontory Apartment where he works at. I was a property manager there and he was a responsible and helpful worker and person. Eugene, John and I were a wonderful team to make the building a nice place for the tenants to stay. Even after
I retired from my job he still offered help if I needed for last 25 years. He will be dearly missed. RIP."

"Please know the residents and Eugene's colleagues at The Promontory Apartments are shocked and extremely sadden by the loss of our friend and your loved one, Eugene. Recently, Eugene shared some photos of his woodworking projects with me. What a talented man! I couldn't believe his artistry and the exceptional skills and commitment to his gift. I immediately wanted to commission him to create something for me. Please cherish his artwork and the many joyful memories he brought to his family and friends. My condolences. Simone "

"To hear the news of Gene’s passing was and still is a shock. I’ve known Gene for roughly 25 years when he was a great team member at the Promontory Apartments staff! His humor was dry, but he smiled A LOT! He was the kind of person who would be willing to help you with pretty much anything. What a great work ethic he had. He will be greatly missed by the Promontory community. My condolences to all his extended family and friends who had the pleasure of having Gene in their lives. Sweet slumber and rest in peace Gene!"

"We are truly saddened by Gene’s passing. He was always so kind to myself, my daughter, and our dog. He was a fixture at the Promontory and incredibly dependable. There was never an issue he didn’t know how to fix in the building. I will be sad not to see him on our morning walks as he was arriving to work. My condolences to his family and friends. "

"My condolences to the family.
Gene was quite a unique person. He was knowledgeable about his work and the building. He was a team player, dedicated to doing a good job, was helpful and always went above and beyond what was expected. He had a "quiet" sense of humor. He was an all around good guy. He will be missed!

"We are truly shocked and saddened to hear of Gene's passing. Gene was an essential part of our building's community, not only because of his contributions as our maintenance technician but his extremely steady presence which was appreciated by all. He is certainly gone too soon and will be remembered and honored in our community. "

"I am so deeply saddened to hear Gene has passed on! I just moved to the Promontory last September, but I was already a huge Gene fan. One small moment with him I'll honestly never forget: about a month after moving in, I needed help hanging some shelves in my apartment. I found Gene, but he was clearly in a rush. With a bit of frustration, he explained he was the only working that day and had way too much to do. I was already turning away to let him get back to work, but then he did something people rarely do: he took a breath, stood up straight, looked me in the eye, and said, “Actually are you free at 4pm today? I could come by then.” It’s hard to explain, but it was such a powerful act. He decided to be kind. It was so graceful, so generous. From that moment on, Gene was someone I hoped I would run into. Just a few days ago, I remarked to myself: “Haven’t seen Gene around lately! Love him. Maybe he’s on vacation.” I’ll never forget Gene for showing me what it means to decide to be generous in any given moment. Rest in peace, Gene. I only knew you for ten months, but you were a real one. "

"We’ve had the privilege of knowing Eugene ever since we first moved into the Promontory Apartments 17 years ago.
From the very beginning, he was someone we could rely on—always calm, always capable, and always ready with a dry, perfectly-timed joke.
His mix of quiet humor and steady responsibility made him a constant and reassuring presence in our lives.
My son, who is now 17, grew up with Eugene around. Even as a young child, he would often tell me, “I really respect him.” We all did.
Please accept our heartfelt condolences. He will be deeply missed.

"Mazin and I would like to join the chorus of Promontory residents who knew and loved Gene. He was unfailingly cheerful, friendly and always ready to help. Nothing was to big or small, from changing a light bulb to moving a sofa. He could repair anything and did it without fuss. “I can pick up the part from Menard’s on my way home tonight and come back tomorrow to fix it.”
Our sympathy to everyone who knew him. He will be sorely missed.

"I was out of town when I received news of Eugene passing away and unable to attend visitation of his wake. After the initial overwhelming shock had abated, and the sadness began to slowly subside, I was flooded with memories of the times that we shared together, and I found myself smiling rather than shedding more tears. Although these memories are too numerous to mention here, I am honored to have had the opportunity to know Eugene and to call him my friend. He was more than just a friend. He was extended family. His energy, unwavering sense of humor, and willingness to help others made him shine. Everyone who knew Eugene recognized the warm and welcoming aura that he emitted during his relatively brief moment here on earth. With the passage of time, we each begin to realize just how short life can be in the grand cosmic scheme, like the fleeting glow of a firefly on a warm summer's night. Eugene's light has now faded, as it eventually will for each of us. But take solace and find comfort in the memories that we all share of him. I raise a glass for you tonight, my lifelong old friend. And I extend my deepest heartfelt condolences to his family. Farewell, Eugene.... Joe & Tina Oskilanec "
