Maria Refugio Alvarez (nee Haro), age 76. Late of Calumet City, IL. Passed away on July 19, 2025. Beloved wife of the late Enrique Alvarez for 49 years. Loving mother of Heriberto (Sandra) Alvarez, Maribel (Joaquin) Villarreal, Cecilia (Patrick) Tode, Raul (Delia) Alvarez, and Eduardo (Maribel) Alvarez. Cherished “Tita” of Eric, Daniel, Roberto, Ariel, Alejandro, Juan, late Victor, Michael, Leira, Yulissa, Karina, Diego, Vincent, Chloe, Victoria, and Everlyn. Dearest Sister of Socorro (Nicolas) Godina. Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by many sisters and a brother. 

Maria (Cuca) loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed the moments in which her family gathered around to enjoy each other’s company. She loved making many dishes from breakfast sandwiches to tamales for her family. She enjoyed spending her time crocheting, knitting, drinking an ice cold michelada, pampering herself, giving advice, talking about her younger days, and most importantly see the beauty in every flower that blooms. She was a devoted catholic always praying her devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe and the rosary. She was a honorable and righteous woman to her husband and family who valued quality time.

Visitation Sunday, July 27, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services, Monday, July 28, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. from the Elmwood Chapel 11200 S. Ewing Ave. Chicago, IL. 60617 to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church for Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
