Maria Morales Torres, age 90. Late of the Southeast side and South Chicago. Passed away June 20, 2025. Beloved wife of the late Jose R for 61years. Mother of Catalina (late Stan), late Steve, Joseph (Anita), Monica and Elvira. Beloved grandma/Sweet pea of late Mathew, Dustin (Jessica), Jeffrey, and Russell. Beloved grandma to Tazzman, Lizzie, Sweet pea and Emmy.

Dear sister of Guadalupe (Raul), Cecilio (late Lorraine) Contreras, and Felix ( Kay) Contreras.

Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. Maria is preceded in death by her husband Jose, Son Steve, parents Elvira Sanchez Contreras, Adolfo Morales and Felix Contreras. Siblings: Peter (Grace)Terriques, Tridada Mora, Loretto (Sandra) Contreras, and Steve (Doris) Contreras.

Maria, was a force to be reckon. She met the love of her life at the Mexican Independence dance where she was crowned Queen in 1957. She thirst for knowledge and to help within her community. She was on the Southeast side post office board, served as an election judge, campaigned for those running for Alderman, State Rep, Mayor, Congressman, Judgeship and the presidency. She herself ran for Alderman. She was a presidential delegate three times and went to Washington, DC for both inaugurations of President Clinton. She worked for Mayor Washington in the Latino Affairs Office.

She was all for education and advocated to ensure children received services.

My Mom requested you not wear black as we celebrate her life. She is at peace with my Dad and the rest of the family and friends. A special thanks to Jeanne Dixon, you were a Godsend to my Mom despite forgetting your name sometimes she was very fond of you and you were great with her.

Visitation Monday, June 23, 2025 from 2:00 – 8:00 pm. Funeral Services Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at 8:15 am from the Elmwood Chapel 11200 S. Ewing Ave. Chicago to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Mass of Christian Burial 9:00 am. For more information 773-731-2749
