Petar V. "Pete" Kovacevich, 72, passed away peacefully at home on May 2, 2025, in Fuquay Varina, North Carolina surrounded by family and his parish priest. Born on August 2, 1952, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and spent much of his life in the Chicagoland area where he raised his family before retiring in North Carolina. Pete lived a life marked by dedication—to his family, his faith, and his profession.
Petar built a successful career in IT & Project Management Consulting and was well-respected for his diligence, technical and business acumen, integrity, and unwavering work ethic. His greatest pride came from his family – he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. Pete spent many years coaching his daughter’s various travel sports including softball and basketball, was an avid reader, Chicago sports fan, lover of rock-and-roll music, enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, was a self-taught handyman who could tackle any project, and above all else, loved spending time with his family and precious grandsons. He was also a person deeply grounded in his faith and a dedicated member of the Orthodox Church throughout his life. He worshipped at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago, Illinois and later at St. Rafael Orthodox Church in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina.
He is survived by his wife Michele, and daughters Alexandra and Elizabeth (Jaymes Parazaider), along with his grandsons, Henry and Remington Kovacevich. Brother Paul Kovacevich (late Roxanne), sister Valerie Backo (late Sam), and brother Vel (Pam) Kovacevich and Uncle to 9 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Metropolitan Christopher P. Kovacevich and Mildred Raicevich.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, 5701 North Redwood Drive in Chicago IL. The funeral service will begin immediately following at 11:00 A.M. with Very Reverend Darko Spasojevic officiating. Interment will be at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Cemetery in Libertyville, IL.
