Amparo Ramirez, (nee Ornelas), age 98, late of the East Side passed away on May 2, 2025. Beloved wife of the late Raymond “Ramon” Ramirez. Loving mother of Dr. Amy Ramirez, MD., Carmen (Alex) Herrera, Veronica (Mark) Foley, Raymond (Dionana) Ramirez, Jr., and Dr. Jacqueline Ramirez, Ed.D. Devoted grandmother of Patrick Herrera, Sandra (Elyse Holguin) Herrera, Jim (Bethany) Foley, twins Sean Foley and Brett (Kate) Foley, and Amy Ramirez. Dear daughter of the late Florentino and late Josefina Ornelas. Dearest sister of late Manuel (late Antonia) Ornelas, late Benito (late Evelia) Ornelas, late Isaura (late Simon) Castro, late Sebastiana (late Felipe) Granados, late Sr. Guadalupe Ornelas, late Esperanza (late Jose) Rodriguez, late Piedad (late Jacobo) Gomez and late Celia (late Juan) Ornelas-De Marin. Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.  

Amparo, a devoted mother, grandmother, and woman of deep faith, passed away peacefully just one day shy of her 99th birthday. Born in Guanajuato, Mexico, she lived a life rooted in love, family, and her unwavering Catholic faith.  

A longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe in South Chicago, Amparo found strength and joy in her religious devotion, instilling those values in her children and grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family, connecting with friends, reading and completing word searches, singing along with mariachi, and dancing at many memorable festive gatherings. 

Her life was a testament to the power of faith, hard work, and unconditional love. She raised her family with wisdom, warmth, and an enduring spirit that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. 

Visitation Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 2-8 p.m. Funeral Friday, May 9, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. from the Elmwood Chapel 11200 S. Ewing Ave. Chicago, IL 60617 to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. 773-731-2749. www.elmwoodchapel.com.
