"I did not know Vivien directly because she was not a student in my class. However, at NLU we consider all of our students as 'family' and we are always concerned about their welfare and well-being. I am saddened and terribly sorry for the family's loss of this apparently vivacious young woman. May the Lord comfort and keep you close during this very difficult time.
In Prayer,
Dr. Michael Fontaine

"Growing up with ViVi is a chapter I’ll always cherish. She was the baby of the family/friend group, and I truly value of all of the moments we were able to share together. I’ve known Vivien for about 14 years, most of her life, and such a sudden and tragic loss is difficult to put in words.
At visitation today, my son Jonah kept saying, “she’s beautiful.”
Jonah’s words encapsulate the person I, her family, and everyone I met today, regarded her to be. Gone too soon."

"I am so sad to hear of Vivien’s passing and send my deepest condolences to her family and friends. I had beautiful Vivien in my English 101 class at NLU this winter. She was a thoughtful, intelligent student and a truly kind and lovely person. May her memory be a blessing. "

"I had the privilege and joy of teaching Vivien at NLU in her first semester. Viveien always had a positive attitude and made many friends in the class. In my class, I am lucky to receive a lot of reflections from students and hear what inspired them to go to college. In multiple assignments, Vivien wrote, "Family above everything is important," and "I am proud of being an aunt to 6 nephews, they are my whole word. My niece looks up to
me and I'm very grateful to have someone see me as a role model. I am very protective of
my nephews and treat them as my own. Putting a smile on their faces are my blessings."
Vivien was wise beyond her years and spoke very eloquently on money not being the most important thing in life. I will miss seeing her on campus, but I am blessed to have had the experience getting to know her during her first term at college. I am confident that her presence will continue to live on through all of us. <3"

"I had the pleasure of working as Vivien's Writing Specialist at NLU this year. We became very close, and often spoke about our shared history with the East Side, as our parents attended the same middle school and grew up in the same area. Vivien often visited me after class, and we would speak about her dreams, aspirations, and goals for the future. She spoke a lot about how much she loved her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She was kind, intuitive, caring, and unbelievably strong. Her presence was felt in every room she was in, and she never hesitated to let her voice be heard. I was so incredibly proud of the young woman she was, and I looked forward to watching her grow. As educators, we spend so much time with students that they often become like family; to me, Vivien was family, and I loved her as such. I will cherish all that she taught me, and I will carry her memory with me in every classroom. "
