Jerome S Sarkey

Passed away on April 27, 2025

Jerome S. Sarkey, age 77, of Cedar Lake, Indiana passed away peacefully at home on April 27, 2025.  He was born in Gary, Indiana on June 27, 1947 to Mathew and Pauline (Komendera) Sarkey, and graduated from Calumet High School in 1965.   He was married to Barbara A. (Austgen) Sarkey for 40 wonderful years. He was an avid golfer and a Chicago White Sox and Bears fan. Jerry was also a member of the Gary Sportsmen’s Club, as well as a member of the Cedar Lake Eagles Aerie 2529. He retired from the Lake County Sherriff’s Department in 2015.  Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Barbara (Austgen) Sarkey, his brothers Eugene (Mary Lou) Sarkey, Michael (Delane) Sarkey, John (Kim) Sarkey, and sister, Deborah Sarkey (Jim Mako), brother and sister-in-laws, David (Dotty) Austgen, Deborah (Michael) Howe, Mercedes (sister-in-law/spouse of Edward R. Austgen), Mary Catherine (Steve) Watson, Patricia (John) Metro, along with many loving nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew Joel Sarkey. Memorial Services will be held at Elmwood Funeral Chapel 9931 Lincoln Plaza Way, Cedar Lake, Indiana 46303 on Thursday, May 1^st from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. Prayer service to be held at 5:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Project Love Food Pantry in Cedar Lake and/or the Building fund for the Cedar Lake Eagles Aerie 2529.  Jerry will be missed by all who loved him.
