Scott Olsen held four unique positions at Joliet Junior College beginning in 1974 as the first Biology Lab Supervisor. At the request of the three original department chairs in the math, physical and biology disciplines, he developed the first Apple Macintosh math/science academic computing lab in 1984. After bringing the World Wide Web to JJC, he became the webmaster. As adjunct faculty, Scott taught early courses on Intro to the Internet, HTML, and web design. He also taught developmental math from the late 1970’s until 2022. Scott was a passionate supporter of the JJC Foundation, Trees for Tomorrow, JJC natural areas, and the ICTM and invitational math contests. He was a valuable member of the JJC Annuitants Association and a regular at the Wednesday morning JJC retiree breakfast. Scott counted each of his colleagues as friends. Fran said he bled purple and white. He is survived by his dear wife of 51 years, Fran; son, The Hon. Shaun T. Olsen (Stephanie); grandsons Austin and Evan; sister, Zoe Ann Kelly (Bill); brother, Barry (Jan); mother-in-law, Jeanette Person; sisters-in-law, Marie Svendsen (Dennis) and Patricia Schneider; nieces and nephews, and sweet American Staffordshire Terrier, Miss Daisy Jane. As a young man, Scott dreamed of becoming a bench biologist in research and development. In that spirit, a scholarship in this name will be established for students exploring the biological sciences.
