Richard Gillette, born on January 26, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend, known for his wit and wisdom. His generosity of spirit and willingness to lend a helping hand left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Richard shared 57 years of love, laughter, and weekends at the lake with his wife, Antoinette Gillette (Sbrissa). Together, they built a beautiful life filled with treasured memories. Richard is survived by his loving wife; their children, Laura, Lisa (Rob), and Michael (Heather); and grandchildren, Corinne, Liam, Evan, and John. He is also survived by his siblings, Donald Gillette, Judy Richards (Robert), and Joanne Gillette-Bailey, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Seth Gillette, and his sister, Bonnie Sitkowski - Venable.
Richard spent his life dedicated to his family and the cherished lake house on Christie Lake. He loved mornings on the water, fishing in his boat, and countless summer nights around bonfires at the water’s edge. These moments remain deeply ingrained in the memories of those who shared them with him.
A proud Veteran, Richard served in the Navy from 1960 to 1964 aboard the USS Plymouth Rock. He carried the humility and pride of his service throughout his life. He was also a retired member of Operating Engineers Local 399. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Richard had a passion for woodworking, painting, fishing, and countless card games.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm and Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 10:30 am until time of prayers at 11:30 am at the Elmwood Funeral Chapel 11300 W. 97th LN. (1/2 block west of US 41/Wicker Ave. at 97th Ln.) St. John to St. John the Evangelist Church – Day Chapel (corner of 93rd and US 41). Mass of Christian Burial 12:00 noon with Military Honors to follow.
Richard Gillette’s legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of those he touched. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest in peace, Richard. You will be dearly missed.
