Passed away on January 9, 2025


Joan Kwiatkowski, age 84, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, in St. John, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents; Rose (nee Podsiadlik) and Bernard Kwiatkowski, her lifelong companion Jerome “McLick” Mendeleyev. She was the loving sister of Bernard (Carol) Kwiatkowski, Ann (Jim) Bartosz and the late Rosalie Hughes. Fond aunt of Renee (Mark) McGarel, Rae Ann (Dave) Halfeldt, Michael (Vanessa) Kwiatkowski, Steve Kwiatkowski and Andrew Hughes. Great-aunt of 12.

Joan was an Emeritus Clinical Professor, Speech Language Pathologist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Illinois-Urbana and her Master’s Degree from the University of Connecticut-Storrs. Joan’s clinical interest at the Waisman Center in Madison included the treatment of children’s speech delays, stuttering and other fluency disorders. She was a member of the Bascom Hill Society at the university.

Her family would like to thank the staff of Park Place of St. John for all the care and kindness given to Joan during her stay there.

Memorial Visitation Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 1-4 p.m. at the Elmwood Funeral Chapel 11300 West 97th Lane (1/2 block west of U.S. 41 / Wicker Ave. at 97th Lane) St. John, IN 46373. Memorial service will take place at 3:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon with Rev. Patrick Lyons, officiating. Cemetery private.
