Steve Rogowski

Passed away on December 23, 2024

On Monday, December 23rd, Steve “Szczepan” Rogowski, loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle passed away at age 76. Steve was born in Poland. His family immigrated to the United States in 1961 and Steve grew up in Chicago, Illinois. Steve also lived in Colorado for many years before returning back to Illinois. Steve was an avid mushroom hunter and loved to make his own pickles. He loved all nature and the beautiful mountains of Colorado. Steve loved campfires and singing. He would try to learn all the words to new songs, who was singing and what the name of the song was. Singing in car rides was the best! Steve was preceded in death by his father Kazimierz, mother Leokadia, sister Gertruda, brother’s Casey, Marian and George. Steve is survived by his daughters Renee (Richard) Kuduk and Carolyn (Eric Kocka) Rogowski, his sister Dorothy “Dorota” Rogowski, grandchildren Rick and Rachel Kuduk, stepson Gabriel (Agnes) Pena, step grandchildren David and Victoria Pena, and many nieces and nephews that adored him. Steve is leaving this world doing good for others. His wishes were to have his brain donated to science. Steve’s brain will be studied at the Mayo Clinic in Florida where they specifically research the disease Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) that he was afflicted with. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025, directly at St. Patricia Parish, 9000 S. 86th St., Hickory Hills, IL. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment Resurrection Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Elmwood Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider donating to the cost of coordinating and harvesting of the brain, for research, as Steve wished. https://gofund.me/851bcdd4

Condolences
"We have so many good memories especially our Great America trips and spending New Year's Eves together. I remember one winter when Steve made that hill in your backyard, so the kids could ride sleds down when we came over. Carrie and Renee you are in our thoughts and wish you peace during this time."

"Uncle Steve loved to go mushroom hunting in Colorado. I learned what I know about picking mushrooms from Him and Mom. He will be missed. We are thankful and grateful for his life, his love, his beautiful family and for the blessings yet to come from his gift to science. Thank you Carrie and Renee for being there for your Father...he indeed had two angels to care for him in his elder years.May this bring you comfort and peace as now he is with his heavenly Father. You are in our thoughts and prayers."

"Richard Kuduk is my younger cousin and I have known Renee ever since they were married. Years ago, Renee asked me to make a scrapbook album of her trip to Colorado when she visited her father. She sent me several photos and postcards to capture their adventure. That is when I “met” Steve. My deepest comfort to his loving daughters Renee and Carrie who were blessed with servant hearts. They both were devoted and gracious caretakers to their mother and father when their parents were ill with many health issues before they departed from this earth. May Steve’s goodness continue to shine forth in the lives of all who knew and loved him. Love and Blessings, Mary and Larry Jucius Northwoods of Wisconsin "
