It is with heavy hearts we share news of the untimely passing of Mitchell Ethan Lucarelli, 42, of Alexandria, Virginia. Ethan was a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend to many.
To those that loved him, he was like gravity—bringing everyone around him together, almost magically. To those who worked with him, he was the ideal colleague—producing gold-standard work product while treating his co-workers like an even more-precious metal.
An accomplished attorney, Ethan excelled in both public and private sector roles throughout his career. In 2020, he joined the Federal Communications Commission and quickly advanced to become Chairwoman Rosenworcel's Wireless and Public Safety Legal Advisor. Ultimately, Ethan was named the first Chief of the Commission's Office of International Affairs. In this role, which he helped to create, Ethan successfully built, and managed, an extensive team of attorneys, engineers, and professional staff. As Chief, Ethan was responsible for leading many of the Commission’s international activities, including treaty negotiations, bilateral and multilateral engagements, and international standard-setting work.
Ethan was also an adjunct law professor at The George Washington University Law School in Washington, DC, where he led teams of law students to success after success in national moot court competitions.
Ethan's laugh was infectious, and his care for others showed in all his actions. He was a world traveler, both for work and for leisure, and some of the most-memorable days were spent strolling through a new city, hand-in-hand with his wife, Vicki.
Ethan was always looking for a challenge whether at work or for fun. His love of music had him set a resolution in 2017 to see more live music, called "52 shows in 52 weeks." Of course, just like Ethan would, he exceeded the challenge he set for himself and attended 54 live music events.
Though his friends were countless, his closest especially loved Ethan for his passion for board games, his excellent knowledge about wine, and his unfailing kindness toward every person he met.
As an organ donor, the last physical gifts he gave exemplified his enormous heart and love for others. His memory will endure through all he touched.
Ethan is survived by his wife, Victoria Correa, his mother, Diane Eubanks, and father, Joseph Lucarelli, his brother, Matthew Lucarelli, and sister, Melissa Lucarelli, and numerous nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a scholarship to be set up in Ethan’s name at the George Washington University Law School, where he was both a student and a top-rated adjunct professor. Donations can be made here: https://gofund.me/f7962844
