Pamela L. Salas (Nee Alvarez), age 68, formerly of “The Bush” South Chicago, late of the East Side, passed away on April 10, 2024. Beloved wife of the late Jacob R. Salas. Loving mother of Veronica Alvarez, Benjamin Salas and Nina (Fred) Hall. Cherished grandmother of Alicia (Julio) Vazquez, Angel Vazquez, Eric Murawski, Kira Hall, Brianna Bradford and Brian Bradford. Great grandmother of Alucard, Lucian and Mason. Devoted daughter of Jesse and the late Lee Alvarez. Dearest sister of Pauline (Paul) Skorupa, Patricia (late John) Garcia, Jesse “Buster” (Diane) Alvarez, Penny (Danny) Castaneda, John Alvarez and Jesse (late Christine) Elias. Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Pam was a diehard Chicago Bears fan and loved to crack open a cold Old Style while watching the game. During preseason or when the weather would be warmer, she would keep her windows open, and her neighbors would be able to keep up with the game just through her yelling at the TV. She loved her soap operas, and everyone knew not to bother her while watching her soaps or you may catch the Chancla. She loved her crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, taking care of her houseplants and gardening. Family game night was always a night of fun and laughs whether we were playing cards, board games, or Mario Party. But you knew if you were playing Yahtzee you were going to lose. She owned that game and threw natural Yahtzee so often and easily you would have thought the dice were loaded. Motown was the soundtrack to her life, she loved the music and dancing to it. Sharing this love of Motown is something her children will always have.
Her love for her dogs was unmatched to the point they were her children. She is met on the other side by her loyal and loving Loba, beautiful, goofy Negra, and her childhood dog Duchess that she loved telling her children stories about. She leaves the sister and brother she rescued from the shelter, the bottomless pit Chula, and the big baby Oso, who are now mourning.
She welcomed everyone into her home and helped anyone in any way she could. You knew you were loved if you had the Golden Key to the house. She was well known for her cooking, spending hours in the kitchen and feeding anyone that showed up. Her trays of Puerto Rican rice were always requested for parties and if you didn’t get it quick, it was gone before you knew it. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren more than anything in the world and always made sure to figured out a way to give them the best of everything like rigging up pinatas in the snow. She is deeply loved and will forever be missed. Our lives will never be the same without her. We love you Mommy.
