"I remember all the good times when the Mendiola clan would visit us in Mercedes, Texas. Johnny, Barbara, Cindy, and I laughed so much when we were together. As young children we enjoyed walking downtown and buying arts and crafts projects at Crenshaw's and buying gifts at Borderland Hardware store. Once we were older and Johnny and I could drive, John, their Dad and my brother-in-law, would send us to Wickes in Harlingen to buy building materials for renovations to the bathroom. I'll never forget all us rolling down the windows of the Oldsmobile Delta 98 and trying to hold on to some sheetrock on the top of the car with our hands. Even though Johnny was driving slow down Highway 83, much to our dismay, we were not strong enough for the wind, and it fell off and broke. We arrived at home thinking we were in for a scolding, but John just sent us back, and told us to tie it down this time. We never forgot that adventure! I also have great memories going with them to Reynosa, and Matamoros Mexico and buying souvenirs, spending wonderful times at South Padre Island, riding bicycles, going to the movies, eating at the Waffle House, Mr. Q's burgers, and What-a-burger, drinking "pop" in glass bottles, shopping and eating warm cashews at Sear's, and washing and drying their many loads of clothes at the Queen City Laundry. All in all, I looked forward to their summer visits. I so wish we could be there in person for Cindy's service, but know that we will be there in spirit and will be in our thoughts. We send our condolences and prayers to you all. Love, hugs, and kisses, Aunt Norma, Andrew, Alyssa, Aaron, Jackie, and Amelie "
