Passed away on January 10, 2024

Joe Hooker, age 71.  Late of Whiting, Indiana.  Passed away surrounded by his family on January 10, 2024.  Beloved husband of Mary Jane (nee Tancos) for 48 years.  Loving father of Katy (Mike) Wilocki and Karly (Scott) Tabernacki.  Cherished “Poppy” of Kaylee, Amelia, and Kelsey.  Dear brother of James (Marcy) Hooker, John Hooker, late Jeff Hooker, Edward (Beth) Hooker, late Sandy (Jim) Ryan, and Grace Hooker and brother in law of Edie Rauner and Cathy (Bill) Murphy.  Joe is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  He was Class of 1971 at St. Francis de Sales HS, a member of Knights of Columbus #1696 and Elks Lodge #1273.  Joe was an avid Chicago White Sox, Blackhawks, and University of Michigan fan.

Joe loved laughing and spent a lot of time donating time to coaching his daughters in many sports. He was always up for Gayety’s ice cream and his dry sense of humor made everyone smile. Joe was as resilient as they come. He was nothing short of a tireless fighter in his time on Earth. Sometimes super heroes don’t wear capes.

Visitation Sunday, January 14, 2024 from 1:00 – 8:00 pm.  Funeral Services Monday, January 15, 2024 at 9:15 am from the Elmwood Chapel 11200 S Ewing Ave. to St. John the Baptist Church.  Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 am.
