May 5, 1934 – November 3, 2023

LOWELL, IN – Bud Artim, 89 of Lowell passed away peacefully at home on Friday 11/3/2023 surrounded by his family and caretakers. Born and raised in Hessville, IN, his parents, R. Ralph and Josephine Artim (Yonker) operated Artim Transportation Systems Inc., one of the largest private steel carriers in the Midwest. Bud was a 1953 graduate of Hammond High School and enlisted in the Army after graduation. Bud was a Korean War veteran serving in the Army until 1962. On October 15, 1960, Bud married the love of his life, Julie Stiglitz from East Chicago, IN and raised his 3 boys, Mike, Joe and Pete in Lowell, IN. Bud was a long-time parishioner of the Monastery and Holy Name Church in Cedar Lake, IN. He and Julie loved traveling to new destinations. Bud was devoted to his family and friends, from supporting his granddaughters’ swimming activities to simply finding reasons to celebrate with family and friends over a good meal. Giving back was a hallmark of Bud’s life and he had a deep appreciation for others, always looking for ways to help and comfort those in need. Bud was an avid fisherman and golfer, as well as a Notre Dame, Purdue and University of Minnesota Duluth fan throughout his life. Bud is survived by his three sons Mike Artim (Karen) with granddaughters, Mackenzie, Kelsi and Jordan of Crown Point, IN, Joe Artim of Duluth, MN and Pete Artim of Lowel, IN, many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. Bud was preceded in death by his parents R. Ralph and Josephine Artim, sisters Phyllis Beckman of Munster, IN and Alice McMahon of Highland, IN. Visitation arrangements will be at Elmwood Funeral Chapel, 9931 Lincoln Plaza Way, Cedar Lake, IN on Thursday, November 9th, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:30 pm. Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Patrick Gawrylewski on Friday, November 10th, 2023 at 10:00 am at Holy Name Church, 11000 West 133rd Avenue, Cedar Lake, IN. Interment will be at West Creek Cemetery, 20395 Calumet Avenue, Lowell, IN immediately following the conclusion of Mass.
