Loretta “Lorraine” Bonin (nee Topa), age 93, of Lansing, IL passed away peacefully at home Tuesday August 29, 2023. The one of 4 girls, Loretta grew up in North Hammond, IN where she worked at QueenAnn Candy Factory. She married Eugene Bonin in 1953, together they raised 5 children in Lansing. As her children grew older, Loretta worked at Thornton Fractional South as a custodian until her retirement.
Loretta will always be remembered first and foremost for being a devout Catholic, praying the Rosary for herself and others, attending Mass and putting the “Sign of the Cross”on everyone’s forehead. In her younger years she enjoyed dancing with friends, visiting with neighbors and attending church picnics. Loretta spent retirement summering in Wisconsin, feeding birds outside her kitchen window and watching the deer in Missouri. Although she never learned to drive, she always found her way to the casino and those quarter slot machines. At home you could find her crocheting blankets for the wheelchair bound and sick, and watching Mass or the Bold and the Beautiful on TV. Above all she loved spending time with her family, oftentimes spoiling her grandchildren with $2 dollar bills as special gifts. Truly the most genuine loving mother, wife, Busia, aunt, cousin and friend; she will remain forever in our hearts.
She is survived by children, Roseann (Ken) Jordan, Katherine (late Gary) Grundhardt, Nancy (Ron) Hanrahan and Kimberly Marie Bonin; grandchildren, Sher’ee Hanrahan, Ron (April) Hanrahan, Danielle (Nathan) Harvey, Matthew Hansen & Angel Hansen; great-grandchildren, Bo, Max, Olive, Sydney, Iris, and Zenna; sisters, Rosemary (late Robert) Hansen, and Barbara (Thomas) Burke; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
