William J. “Blackie” Hovan, age 98.  Formerly of the East Side and South Chicago.  Passed away July 2, 2023.  Beloved husband of the late Gertrude (nee Rasmus).  Loving brother of the late Vladimir (late Eleanor) Hovan and the late Helen Heidekruger.  Dearest uncle of Pamela Hovan, Michael (Belinda) Hovan, Lanelle Jansky, Suzan Begich, Cherished great uncle of Lindsey (Michael) Opyd, Elizabeth (Mark) Binnedyk.  Dear great great uncle of Aiden and Lukas Opyd and Bentley and Brody Binnedyk.  Retired trainmaster of EJ&E Railroad.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army WWII.  Bill was a longtime member of St. Michael Church and an avid golfer.  Memorial visitation Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 9:00 am until time of memorial service at 10:30 am at the Elmwood Chapel 11200 S.
