Deacon William P. Sayre, "Bill"

Passed away on May 15, 2023


Deacon William P. “Bill” Sayre, age 69.  Late of Dyer, Indiana.  Passed away May 15, 2023.  Beloved husband of Judy (nee Erickson) for 40 years.  Loving father of Jacquelyn (Nickolas) Adair and Rebecca Sayre.  Cherished grandfather of Gwendolyn Adair.  Dearest brother of Reid (Ann) Sayre, Jeanne (Michael) DeMart, late Roger (Teri) Sayre, late Barbara (Gerry) Grady, late Jack (Barbara) Sayre, late Joseph “Jay” Sayre, Eddie (Cathy) Sayre, late Peggy (Jim) Mako, Jane (Dan) Finn, and Bud (Shawn) Landeck.  Bill is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  He is preceded in death by his mother Beryl Sayre and father Roger (Alice Rose) Sayre.  Bill was ordained a Deacon in June of 2011 and has faithfully served St. John the Evangelist Church and was a dedicated Chaplain for Franciscan Hospitals.  Bill was chairman of the Art and Environment committee at St. John the Evangelist, a member of the Secular Franciscan’s, as well as a Past Grand Knight and 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus – Fr. Michael J. McGivney Council #8082.  In his free time Bill loved to garden and spend time with his family. 

Visitation for Deacon Bill will begin with a Rite of Reception at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 19, 2023 at St. John the Evangelist Church 10701 Olcott Ave. St. John.  He will lie in state for visitation following the Rite of Reception until time of Evening Prayer at 7:00 pm.  Funeral Services for Deacon Bill will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 with morning prayer at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Church with Rev. Sammie Maletta officiating.  Interment St. John the Evangelist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the family or St. John the Evangelist Church.
