Adele was preceded in death by her husband, Rade Filic, son Petar Filic, grandson Wallace Rabatine, III, and great granddaughters Leila and Leona Filic as well as her parents and eleven siblings in Germany.
Born in Germany, Adele moved to the US with her husband and children in 1956. Though they missed their homes and families in Europe, she and Rade worked hard and were successful at building a large, close-knit family in Chicago. She was happiest when surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren. Adele treasured all the visits with them, and they kept her joyful and fulfilled until her last days. Most of all, she loved to laugh and make the kids laugh and would often be seen acting silly and telling funny stories. Always serving a delicious homemade meal and hot coffee for anyone who showed up, all were welcome in her loving home. A talented home cook, she taught her children how to create meals where the most important ingredient was love. Of course, her special homemade German cookies and “Muchkas” were carefully made by her own hands for the family as a token of her love. A model of respect and dignity, Adele taught everyone to value life and treat all people with compassion. Some of her favorite things in life were fragrant colorful flowers, sweet licorice, knitting and crocheting outfits and blankets for all the grandchildren, 7-Up, Gayety’s gourmet ice cream, working in her lovely garden, and earning the title Grand Champion of the family game Trouble. Watching The Sound of Music and The Ten Commandments with her family was one of her favorite activities. Incredibly blessed to have enjoyed so many years with her, it was a privilege to love Adele and receive her love in return and she will be missed beyond measure by so many. To honor her incredible love in life, donations may be made to The Special Olympics of Chicago, The American Lung Association, or the American Heart Association.
A special thank you from our family to Dr. Saroj Verma, Dr. Sophie Rodrigues Pereira and Calumet Region Hospice.
