Passed away on December 7, 2022

Carla Stella, age 93, of Manteno, Illinois, formerly of the South Deering area of Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2022. Loving mother of Mark (late Melissa) Stella, Sheila (John) Berens, Brian (Tisa) Stella and Monica Crosby.  Adored grandmother of John and Marissa Berens, Erin and Adriana Stella, Amanda (Joseph) Ganci and the late Ryan Crosby.  Dearest sister of Neil (Marilyn) 

Born in Wakefield Nebraska to the late Fred & Alice Simmons (Bowling), Carla spent her early years in Cedar Rapids, Iowa forming lifetime friendships, and developing her unique style and personality along with a Midwestern sensibility. The allure of Chicago beckoned and she moved to the Windy City in her late teens.

A circle, a journey, a river, a path; life and death are part of us all. Carla’s life path was at times unconventional, unusual, and unbelievable. Her success in life is best measured by the unconditional love she shared. 

Carla was compassionate, caring, and open-minded. She was very well-read, and enjoyed all the culture thatChicago offered. She loved going to theatre, operas, and all the museums and special exhibits . She especially loved theChicago Art Institute. She was also very fortunate to have traveled to other cities and countries and visit their historic museums.

Carla raised 4 children with so much love and care. She was a great cook, had a good sense of fashion and always made her sure kids dressed well. Carla was also a great teacher to her children.

Her joy of people and indomitable spirit kept her goingthrough her 93 years of life. Many will remember her talent for sharing an interesting story, mainly biographical in nature. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation Sunday, December 11, 2022 from 1-8pm at Elmwood Chapel, 11200 S. Ewing Ave., Chicago.  Funeral services and interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery will be held privately for the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the ASPCA or the charity of your choice in Carla’s name would be appreciated.  773-731-2749 www.elmwoodchapel.com
