Klara Gruszkowski (nee Schmucker), age 86, late of Steger, IL formerly of Sauk Village and Chicago, IL originally from Augsburg, Germany passed away on January 12, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Lawrence “Larry” Gruszkowski for 56 years. Loving mother of Karl (Michelle) Gruszkowski, Lisa (John) Wallis, Debbie (John) Mladenovski, and Linda (George) Chruszch. Cherished grandmother of Sarah, Mathew, Curtis, Mara, Brandon, Breanna, Madison, Megan, and Emily and a great grandmother of 4. Dear sister of Martha Deyhle formerly of Augsburg, Germany and the late Helga Michalski, Liesel Henger, Renate Müller, Dagmar Steppich, Adolf Schmucker, and Eugen Schmucker. Preceded in death by her parents Simon and Josefa Schmucker. Klara immigrated to the United States from Augsburg, Germany at a young age and was proud of her German homeland. Klara adored having flowers in her yard, and she took pride in her cooking and baking.

Visitation Wednesday, January 19, 2022 3-7pm. Funeral Services Thursday, January 20, 2022 from Elmwood Funeral Chapel, 11300 W. 97^th Ln., St. John, IN 46373 to St. Michael the Archangel Parish, 1 W. Wilhelm St., Schererville, IN 46373 for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Interment to proceed at Memory Lane Memorial Park, 6305 W. Lincoln Hwy, Crown Point, IN 46307.
