Guadalupe Guerra de Aguayo, "Lupita"

Passed away on August 9, 2021

Guadalupe ‘Lupita’ Guerra de Aguayo, 92, of Speedway, IN, passed away on May 13, 2021, surrounded by family.  Lupita made her home comfortable and happy for her husband Jesús Aguayo, and their three children; Elia, Ric and Dave.  They began their life together in the West Pullman community on the southside of Chicago, and then moved to Hegewisch to raise their children, settling in retirement in Speedway, Indiana, near Indianapolis.

Lupita had a storybook courtship with Jesús in Mexico in the early 1950’s. They married in 1955 in her native Mexico City and emigrated to the United States after a honeymoon in Miami, Florida.  Leaving behind her Mexican lifestyle, she acclimated quickly into her American life and local customs, along with her adoring husband.  On July 2nd of this year, they would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.

Lupita was a loving wife, caring mother, and tireless homemaker.  She embraced all communities in which she resided, and enjoyed a weekly coffee ‘klatsch’ with her friends and neighbors. Lupita was often a gracious hostess, welcoming family from Mexico into her homes for extended periods of time.

Lupita spoiled her children as she raised them, always preparing meals and ensuring nothing was missing in the home. Whether it was Christmas or birthday celebrations, she and Jesús ‘Papa Chuy’ never held back. She was ever-present at school events and ready to kiss the occasional "ouchie" that inevitably occurred.  She then cared for and joyfully spent time with her grandchildren at every opportunity, earning the name Mama Pita.  Each of them have their favorite stories of Mama Pita and the Num Num Chair (high chair).

Sundays were always special, doing something fun after church, even if it was a pizza from around the corner. She enjoyed family outings and visiting friends from all around Chicagoland, no matter the distance.  Visits to parks and beaches were nearly always accompanied by good friends, fun homemade foods and a bucket of fried chicken.  Lupita planned and managed many long car trips to visit family in Mexico City and Monterrey, Mexico.

Today we are comforted by our belief that she is once again holding the hands of her beloved husband Jesús Aguayo and cherished youngest son David Gerardo Aguayo.  She now rests peacefully along with her parents, siblings, relatives, and so many who have left us before her.

Lupita leaves behind her devoted children, Elia Susana Aguayo Molburg, and Ricardo Jesús (Carol DeMers) Aguayo. She is deeply missed by Christine Bugajski, Dave's loving companion, and her adult grandchildren: Jessica (Randy Smith) Aguayo, Alisha (Alex) Semprebon, Andrew Molburg, Amanda (Shaun) Shervino, and Ariyana Aguayo.  She continuously asked about her great grandchild, Cleo Grace Semprebon, who she adored and lovingly held at 3 months old.  Cleo gave her great joy through videos and  baby stories that were shared.  Lupita is remembered with love by many nieces, nephews, and cousins, along with many dear friends that are family to us, in both the U.S. and Mexico.

A Service of Prayer and Remembrance for Lupita will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021.
