Peggy Louise Link

Passed away on May 2, 2021

Peggy Louise Link, age 69, passed away on Sunday, May 2nd at 8:31 a.m. surrounded by her husband and three children. She fought a long battle with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma and passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own bedroom after coming to her St. John, Indiana home Friday for hospice care.

Peggy was born in Gary, Indiana on March 20, 1952 to her parents John R. (Sr.) and Margaret Mahoney and big brother by 10 years, John Robert (Bob) Jr.  The family of four moved to a new home in Hobart, Indiana. After attending high school at Hobart High School (Class of 1971), Peggy met her soon to be husband John Francis Link at a local dance hall. John and Peggy were married on April 20th, 1974 at Peggy’s parents’ home in Hobart.

Peggy and John resided shortly in Lansing, Illinois while Peggy was working at Jays Potato Chip factory in Chicago. They brought home their first daughter, Jennifer Ann Link (Sajovec) in 1976. Soon after moving to the long time residence in Calumet City, Illinois, Kevin John Link was born and two years later joined by Kimberly Marie Link (Orlando.) Peggy worked part-time work before becoming a full time bus driver for Vancom Bus Lines in South Holland for 10 years.   Peggy then became a special education teacher’s aide for ECHO in South Holland where she retired five years ago.

Always dabbling in some type of crafts, Peggy enjoyed crocheting the most. At one time, Peggy was making blankets for newborns at local hospitals.  Peggy loved the White Sox and doing word search puzzles. She was “mom” to several beloved pets and seemed to always convince her husband John to add just one more including her present dog, Sandee who was by her bedside when she passed peacefully.

Peggy is preceded in death by her parents John “Bob” Robert Mahoney Sr. and Margaret A. Mahoney. She is survived by her husband of 47 years John Francis Link and three children, Jennifer (Pete) Sajovec, Kevin (Anna) Link and Kimberly (Eddie) Orlando.  Peggy has 5 loving grandchildren, Jack and Will Sajovec, Dominic and Isabelle Orlando, and Emma Link. She will be lovingly remembered by her older brother John “Bob” (Joan) Mahoney Jr. and their children Tammy (Brad) Greenwell, Rob Mahoney and Tara (Chris) Ings.
