Dolores Kapitan

Passed away on April 12, 2021

Dolores Kapitan (born January 26th 1930) a long time resident of St. John Indiana and parishioner of St. John Evangelist Church, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2020 after a gallant fight with Alzheimer’s. Dolores returned home to her Lord to celebrate with all her loved ones who have gone before.

Dolores made many new friends while spending her last years living at St. Anthony’s assisted living and long term care. Her days were full of family visits, church, shopping trips, puzzles, special outings, holiday & birthday celebrations, even a few casino trips, and lots of her “creative cleaning”.

Long term care brought communion at least twice a week, indoor bowling, discovering old polka music (Who Stole the Kishka?), and her “disassembling” of lots of objects. She enjoyed loving visits from family, friends, and her sister Evelyn. Play time with great grandchildren and little friends always brought lots of fun, laughter, and love.

Those that came to visit her, along with those who lovingly cared for her, were often greeted by her fist shaking and finger pointing followed by lots of smiles and laughter.

Dolores was preceded in death by her husband Sam, too early in their life’s journey. Their love has created a legacy carried on through their 5 children, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

With honor, love and laughter we share Dolores’ first born granddaughter’s thoughts in remembering her Grandma Kap:

She spoke her mind always no matter the audience.

She did whatever made her happy.

She went to church practically every day and prayed her Rosary prayers.

She made killer pierogis.

She climbed ladders in her 80’s to clean out her gutters.

Cleaning was her favorite pastime (aside from church service).

She told you when you gained weight and when she didn’t like your hair.

She loved giving gifts.

She loved shopping and telling you to come pick her up.

She never drove a car.

She lost her husband young and lived alone most of her life.

She LOVED her FAMILY and WE LOVED HER SO MUCH!!!
