Jose Mercado, “Chepo”, age 74, late of the East Side, passed away March 26, 2021.  Beloved husband of Margarita (nee Cortes) for 45 years.  Loving father of Gabriela (Antonio Cato) Mercado, Carlos (Elena) Mercado and Carolina (Johnny) Castillo.  Cherished grandfather of Matthew Mercado, Dahlia Cato, Sofia Mercado and Olivia Castillo. Dear brother of Antonio, Nicolas, Ramon, Margarita, Miguel and Ruben Mercado.  Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.  Jose was a retired employee of Sharlen Electric after 15 years of service and a former employee of Cullen Electric for 15 years and South Chicago Shortening for 15 years.  He enjoyed cooking and was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan.  A Memorial Visitation will be held Thursday, April 1, 2021 from 2-9pm (Service at 3pm) at Elmwood Chapel, 11200 S.
