"Grew up with Joe and the beautiful Mendiola family since childhood in South Chicago. So many great memories of him as we grew up, his friendship, played ‘street football’ until the lights came on, always a smile on his face. A great friend regardless of how much time had passed. Will miss him dearly. Heaven is a great place to rest. God bless him and his entire family. "

"Joe and I became good friends in high school. He had the best smile (dimples) and laugh. I remember how bright and athletic he was. He was always a gentleman and kind. We lost touch over the years but always cherished our friendship. To his family,I am so sorry for your loss and want you to know that Joe was a loving, sincere, caring friend to me and I appreciated his friendship. I will miss him and pray that he rests in peace. I hope I can personally get the chance to convey my condolences personally to his beautiful family in July."
