David G. Aguayo

Passed away on December 27, 2020

David Gerardo Aguayo, 57, of Cedar Lake, IN, died peacefully and arrived at his eternal home on December 27, 2020, surrounded by family with warmth, love, and song. He courageously fought glioblastoma brain cancer for over eleven months.

Dave made his home in Cedar Lake, IN, with the love of his life, Christine Gallo Bugajski.  She was his guardian angel throughout his illness.

Dave and Chris formed a loving union by rekindling a friendship many years after first meeting during their childhood. Prior to Cedar Lake, Dave lived in Hegewisch (Chicago), Lynwood, Crest Hill (Joliet), and Tinley Park, Illinois.

Born June 10, 1963, at Illinois Central Hospital in Chicago, IL, Dave was raised by his parents, Jesus and Guadalupe Aguayo, in the West Pullman community on the southside of Chicago along with his sister Elia and brother Ric (Richi). His family moved to Hegewisch when Dave turned nine years old. He attended West Pullman and Grissom Elementary School, George Washington High School, and two years at Illinois Institute of Technology, where he studied Architecture.

Dave was the person everyone enjoyed being around and he made friends everywhere he went. Dave embraced all music, although naturally rooted in 70’s rock and pop, especially Led Zeppelin, he enjoyed soft rock, hip hop, grunge, and all their variations. He loved dancing at any and every occasion, including at his daughter Amanda’s wedding when they broke out into some fun salsa moves. Dave was looking forward to his daughter Jessica’s wedding next fall, where he secretly planned to break out into ‘Walk Like an Egyptian’, their favorite childhood dance. He also enjoyed spending time in downtown Chicago, exploring and visiting new sights. Dave loved laughing & spending time with his daughters, family and friends.

Dave enjoyed his time with the Cub Scouts of America, especially the memory of building a pinewood derby car with his Dad. He was an avid collector of beer cans, proudly displayed for many years in the basement of his Hegewisch home. Hard-working from his teenage years, Dave shared his creativity, leadership, and determination in the restaurant business early on (Taco Bell, Chi Chi’s, Applebee’s & TGI Friday’s) and then in the fencing industry (K Brothers Fence). Most recently, he worked alongside Chris, improving the residential fencing business at Fence Masters, Inc.

Dave leaves behind his devoted life partner Christine Gallo Bugajski; his mother Guadalupe (Lupita) Guerra de Aguayo; his siblings Elia Molburg and Ric (Carol DeMers) Aguayo; adult children Jessica (fiancé Randy Smith) Aguayo, and Amanda (Shaun) Shervino; his nephew Andrew Molburg, and nieces Alisha (Alex) Semprebon, Ariyana Aguayo, and grand niece, Cleo Grace Semprebon; many adoring aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, in both the U.S. and Mexico, along with many dear friends that are family to us. Dave was preceded in death by his father Jesus (Chuy) Aguayo.

Dave leaves us countless fond memories of love, laughter and “Dad jokes”, which are forever with us.

A service in Celebration of Dave’s Life will be held at a later date due to Covid-19. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to support the Neuro Oncology Fund at Rush University Medical Center, 1201 W. Harrison St., Ste. 300, Chicago, IL, 60607-3319 or visit http://rush.convio.net/DAguayo  or The Glioblastoma Foundation at https://glioblastomafoundation.org
