"What a fabulous teacher Mr. Z. was! I credit him with a great deal of my success as a person and a student, which started at Sandburg Junior High (Class of 1976). Of all of the history teachers I had, he ranks as THE best, including the ones I had at Thornton Township High School (Class of 1980) and Yale University (Class f 1984). Not only that, but he provided in us a whole child approach, which I am proud to say I have instilled in my own students as a teacher, administrator, and Head of School. Mr. Z took us to Bulls games and Blackhawk games, and provided leadership opportunities on the 8th grade Friday morning basketball. The basketball games were epic and fun. I was that year's MVP, which I never forgot what that accomplishment felt like in gaining his respect and trust. Mr. Z, rest well and forever. You served God and the community of learners well throughout your brief time on this earth. Long may you be remembered as a great soul that you were. My Very Best, Brian Thomas "

"My heart felt condolences to the Zakrzewski family for your loss. I had the privilege and honor of being a student of Mr. Z’s at Sandburg Elementary school in Harvey, Illinois. Mr. Z was that teacher who not only taught us text book lessons, but life lessons that many of his students are still holding onto today. Mr.Z had the respect of all of his students. He demanded a lot from his students causing some of us to realize potential that we didn’t know we had. Thank you Mr. Z for answering your call to teach. You should rest easy knowing that you did good by so many. RIP "
