Francis J. “Jerry” Januszewski (Ret.CPD), age 73.  Late of Lockport, Illinois formerly of the East Side of Chicago.  Passed away July 11, 2020.  Loving father of Jennifer (Jeff) Thiery.  Cherished grandfather of Kyle M. and Kaylee M. Thiery.  Devoted son of the late Phyllis E. (nee Dynowski) and the late Stanley H. “Cherry” Januszewski.  Dearest brother of the late Cynthia L. Januszewski. Dear nephew of Beverly and William Dynowski and Christine and Leonard Parks. Also survived by numerous cousins and dear friend of Doug Gush.  Veteran of the U.S. Army – Vietnam War serving in the B Company 3rd/12th Infantry, 4th Inf. Division. Jerry was a retired patrolman for the Chicago Police Department with 37 years of dedicated service.  He was a longtime member of Samurai’s Chicago, National 4th Infantry Division Association, 82nd Airborne Association, Combat Infantryman’s Association, VFW Post #177, Disabled American Veterans, FOP Lodge #7, the Retired Chicago Police Association, Burnham National Golf Club, Lionel Collectors Club of America, Mike’s Train House Railroaders Club, and Atlas Golden Spike Club.  He played for the Bonivir’s semi pro football team, Slide Inn/O’Hara’s flag football team, numerous bowling and 16” softball teams, and Sarah O’s Traveling Bocce Team.  Memorial Visitation Saturday, August 8, 2020 from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm at the Elmwood Chapel 11200 S. ""Braves Always First" Jerry was a Vietnam Veteran that served in Bravo Company, 3rd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division from 1968-1969. The 3-12 Infantry "Braves" served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1970, and men like Jerry filled its ranks, fighting tenaciously and enduring untold hardships throughout the Central Highlands of the Republic of Vietnam. We worked on the same watch in the 004 district, he was a hard worker, a very professional police officer. He was so easy to get along with - such a good guy! He will be missed by many. "My mom went to High School with Jerry, but I was able to meet him once and talk to him on the phone. I heard stories about him from High School and during my mom's friendship with him over the last couple years felt like I got to know him. Jerry was a true American Hero. He is someone who embodied the idea of selflessness, helping others and being in service to others. I am thankful and honored for the opportunity I had to know him. He was a shining light of God's love in the world. Thank you, Jerry, for being an amazing person and touching the lives of so many people!"
