"Dear Alvarez Family, I am still in shocked with the sad news of our dear friend and colleague Juan passed away. It was a little bit less than 3 years since I met him at HCSC and the time was enough to know that he was one of the most beloved co-worker, he was always willing to help, collaborate with others and always very humble, he would be terribly miss by his work family too. I have been praying for him and his family, there are not enough words to give you comfort, hopefully God can give you the peace and comfort during this difficult time, please accept my deepest condolences. "I have never meet a finer man. Juan was kind and loving. I worked with him for over 20 years, never heard him raise his voice, never had a harsh word about anyone. Was a hard and smart contributor. He built bridges to get things done. He loved his wife and girls and he would light up with pride when he spoke of them. Nancy please be comforted with knowing he made this world a better place just by being in it. May God watch over you and the girls."

"I am so very saddened to learn of Juan’s passing. As a colleague of Juan’s I got to know a very special person, kind, thoughtful, fun and a dedicated employee. He actually began his career in my department. I transferred to one of our Texas offices and on my last day Juan presented me with a guardian angel pin which I still have today 22 years later. We kept in touch after my move from time to time. I will always remember him fondly. May your love and memories help you through this difficult time and beyond."

"To Juan's wife and girls, my heart is broken for you. Juan was a buddy, on my favorites list, and like a work brother. We were supposed to start on yet another project this week…the silence is painful. I find myself trying to be more patient, more thorough in my work, more supportive...like Juan. Knowing that a silly instant message of mine once made him snort on a conference call where he forgot to put himself on mute makes me smile through watery eyes. I'll miss our random chats and that coffee break we never had. And I can't forget how the banquet room filled with our chant of, "Juan!, Juan!, Juan!..." as he was called up to receive a Finance award for excellence. He was well respected at HCSC. In these days ahead, I pray Psalm 121 over you and that your space would be filled with the comforting presence of Father God. With deepest sympathy,"

"It warms my heart to see the kind words of my uncle’s colleagues. This was a part of his life that we did not really get to see or learn a lot about. Thank you. I would also like to say a few words about my uncle in hopes that it may also bring a small amount of comfort. My grandma told me she brought my uncle and his sister Luisa from Mexico when they were just 3 and 2 years old. She was meeting my grandpa here and they wanted to give there kids a good life. My uncle was the most amazing person. He was kind, caring, funny, smart, handsome...every positive adjective you can think of. He and Tia Nancy are also great and hardworking parents. There’s no doubt in my mind that his daughters will grow up and do amazing things and accomplish many goals. All ready they have done so much. My Tio and Tia always supported their daughters through school, baseball/softball, Ballet, Gymnastics, volleyball, art etc. They also have a big beautiful house and never were in need of something like clothes or toys. But, most importantly they had their dads love and support. Similarly, my uncle also shared his love like this with his family. To my cousins he is our “Tío Juan” “Uncle Johnny” “Padrino” “Panino” My sister and I grew up without a dad but we were lucky to have our Tio Juan. I think in our hearts we secretly wished to have a dad like him. For all us cousins, my Tio Juan was at all our birthdays. He went to many of our graduations, sing-a-longs, sports games, art shows, Communions, Confirmations, etc. Even drove 2 hours just to visit me at University. We sat with him on the train if we were ever downtown. He made us big cups of coffee when we visited him at home or sometimes bought us coffee if we were out. My Tio Juan also has a huge music and movie collection. He showed us and let us chose music to put into our iPods and let us watch many of his movies. It was because of my Tio Juan, that at 15 years old I could have The Beatles, Queen, and Hannah Montana on my iPod. I could go on and on. I love my uncle so so much. I will carry this love with me until the end. I will do my best to support my Tia and my cousins because we also love them so so much. I hope our love can radiate and bring some comfort as they face this difficult time. "
